UPDATED: OCTOBER 2021 to acknowledge new company branding: Hunter is now Hunter Evolve.
Roar Ambition Ltd is an English supplement company based in Leeds. They are responsible for some of the coolest looking products out there on the market right now — and some of our favourite supplements:
- We’re talking fat burner Instant Knockout, best for ultimate shredding.
- Testosterone Booster Testofuel, ideal for the young weightlifting market
- Prime Male and Prime Male Enhance, a T-booster and virility support for the older man.
All three have made our Best Of year lists for some time now. Seriously, these guys get 5 stars for style and, so far, substance. And Roar Ambition’s latest product range, Hunter Evolve, keeps up the gold standard. We’ll start by examining Test by Hunter Evolve, a testosterone booster.
Test by Hunter Evolve is part of a three-product stack –Test, Burn (fat burner) and Focus (nootropic) –designed for men in their 30s and above. Test by Hunter Evolve promises to boost testosterone, increase your energy levels, help you become stronger and healthier, enhance your confidence, and boost your libido. Let’s see how it expects to achieve that…
Ingredients in Test by Hunter Evolve
D-Aspartic Acid (3000mg)
D-AA is a powerhouse amino acid that is fantastic in T-boosters. Studies show it can offer a short-term testosterone boost of between 30-60% in just 12 days. D-Aspartic Acid can massively increase testosterone. It has also been proven to boost sperm quality (number and mobility) by between 60-100% in sub-fertile men when taken for 2-3 months.
Here’s why it’s such a good T-booster: it improves the body’s own testosterone production in three ways, influencing Luteinizing Hormone (precursor to T), encouraging T-production in the testes, and converting cholesterol into testosterone faster.
The 3000mg in Hunter Test is one of the biggest doses found in a T-booster on the market today.
Ashwagandha Extract (300mg)
Ashwagandha is known to raise testosterone but it does double duty in Test by Hunter Evolve. As well as boosting T-levels, it’s also a potent adaptogen, tackling stress, fatigue and depression. High cortisol levels (the stress hormone) directly affect testosterone production by attacking the testes. Studies have shown that taking Ashwagandha can reduce cortisol by up to 27.9%.
Ashwagandha can potentially also improve your gym performance.
Zinc (30mg) & Magnesium(200mg)
Zinc and magnesium are two of the three ingredients that make up ZMA, a supplement designed to help improve sleep and recovery from exercise.
Zinc actually has a direct effect on testosterone, especially in men who are deficient. You may struggle to gain or maintain your zinc levels if you’re vegetarian or exercise at a high intensity (the latter uses up your body’s store of zinc.) Being low in zinc can damage your testosterone levels, and the hope is that by topping up with a zinc supplement you can return your testosterone levels to optimum, and prevent further loss. Zinc may also help boost fertility in men with low free testosterone.
A Turkish study has proven that magnesium supplementation helps to boost free and total testosterone levels in both sedentary men and athletes. (If you’re interested, levels increased the most in those who were active, so get out the running shoes!). Magnesium may also reduce cortisol, the stress hormone, which can indirectly increase testosterone. It also improves sleep quality which is one of the best ways to maintain or increase testosterone. Magnesium is also lost in sweat.
Both zinc and magnesium, therefore, are valuable additions to the Test by Hunter Evolve formula.
Vitamin D3
There’s growing evidence of vitamin D’s role in testosterone production. An Austrian study, for instance, saw a “significant increase in total testosterone levels, bioactive testosterone, and free testosterone levels” in men who took supplemental vitamin D.
Supplementing with vitamin D is recommended, especially in the autumn and winter months in the UK. It’s a very influential vitamin, impacting everything from bone strength to muscle mass, with adequate amounts lowering your risk of diabetes and heart disease, as well as helping tackle fatigue.
It’s worth noting that the amount of vitamin D in Test by Hunter Evolve is quite high. For this reason, Test also includes vitamin K and magnesium, thought to dial down any potential side effects. Taking some vitamin A may also be advised.
Panax (Asian) Ginseng (300mg)
There have been numerous studies on the beneficial impact of Panax ginseng on many areas of the body, but its ability to influence testosterone directly deserves to be studied further. Early indications are positive. One Chinese study, for instance, concluded that “P. ginseng plays an important role in maintaining healthy levels of steroid hormone receptors, including AR, which in turn ensures the proper functioning of androgens.” (In short, androgens influence male hormones such as testosterone).
Another study showed that Panax Ginseng can both boost T-levels and sperm quality in men with fertility issues. In addition, Ginseng can improve sleep quality (which can indirectly increase testosterone), it can increase libido, reduce depression, increase calmness, mood, erections, and cognition. The dosage is spot on.
Another useful ingredient.
Indole-3-Carbinol (200mg)
This is an ingredient found in broccoli and other vegetables that are in the brassica family. While it doesn’t boost testosterone, it blocks an enzyme called aromatase. The function of aromatase is to convert testosterone into oestrogen. As you can imagine, in men, the more aromatase you have in your body, the less testosterone.
Finding an ingredient that can block aromatase would therefore help protect testosterone, and allow your body to rebuild testosterone levels. We’re impressed that Hunter Evolve thinks outside the box to protect testosterone in more than one bio-pathway.
Boron (10mg)
Boron is a recognised T-boosting supplement with a fair amount of clinical evidence behind it. A comprehensive 2015 review demonstrated that taking 6mg a day for just one week has the ability to:
- Increase levels of free testosterone by up to 25%
- Reduces oestrogen levels by nearly half, among other benefits.
Boron supplementation also brings other benefits, such as allowing the body to absorb more vitamin D; keeping bones healthy; boosting brain function, and more. Dosage in Test by Hunter Evolve is perfect, and Boron Chelate, the form used here, is a premium version of the mineral.
Vitamin K2 (150mcg)
Vitamin K has been shown to boost testosterone in rats by working directly on the testes, and its influence is amplified when used alongside vitamin D3. It prevents calcium build-up, helping the vitamin D boost testosterone further. There is also some suggestion that vitamin K can help with age-related testosterone decline.
The Pros of Test by Hunter Evolve
- Excellent design and marketing.
- UK-based company with an excellent reputation.
- Free delivery on large orders.
- A nice combination of ingredients that reduce oestrogen, protect testosterone, and help with recovery and sleep quality.
- Massive dose of D-AA, pretty decent doses of the rest.
- Contains no stimulants.
- Made according to cGMP rules in the UK and FDA laws in the USA.
The Cons
- A serving size is six capsules which some people may find off-putting
Safety/Side Effects
All of the ingredients in Test by Hunter Evolve are natural and shouldn’t cause problems for most people. Be aware that the vitamin D dose is on the high side, however, so speak to your doctor if you have any concerns.
How to Take It?
Roar Ambition tells us that a serving size is six capsules, which should be taken as three capsules twice a day. A lot to take, but it should keep your T-levels up throughout the day.
Who Takes It?
This is a particularly interesting question being as Roar Ambition’s other testosterone-boosting offerings, TestoFuel and Prime Male, target young bodybuilders and mature men respectively. It makes sense then that Test by Hunter Evolve falls somewhere in the middle of that spectrum — targeting men aged 30 and beyond.
This is the age at which testosterone starts to fall by approximately 1% each year, so it’s a good idea to keep levels up before the decline becomes permanent or debilitating. Given the success of certain ingredients in Test by Hunter Evolve in boosting sperm counts and motility, it may also be beneficial for men trying for a family.
In short, if you are in the right age bracket, or are infertile, have a low libido, low energy, and particularly if you have had your testosterone checked then this product is a great non-medical option.
Does it Work?
How well it works will depend on many other factors. What your current testosterone levels are like, what your diet is like, your sleep, your activity levels, and several other factors. But Test by Hunter Evolve will work.
If you have been training hard, are chronically stressed, have been sleeping badly, or are currently sedentary, then this supplement combined with a lifestyle overhaul could potentially make a huge difference.
Final Word on Test by Hunter Evolve
As with any testosterone booster, Test by Hunter Evolve will not work in a vacuum. In other words, you can’t just take the supplement and expect instant results. You need to address your current lifestyle.
But if you are already making improvements to your lifestyle, Test could be a great addition. It offers credible testosterone boosters that work along more than one bio-pathway, contains a huge dose of D-AA, and includes pretty decent dosages of the rest.
The ingredients are tailor-made for men whose testosterone levels are already beginning to fall or have fallen. Which is, as we already know, any man above the age of 30.
It will give you that extra 5-10% which a good supplement will offer. Worth your money, but you will have to make it work for you.
